In today’s diverse fashion world, choosing the right knitted fabric requires a certain level of understanding of each type. In this article, VieTextile will introduce you to the top 6 common types of knitted fabric on the market, helping you make the right choices.
1. 6 Common Types of T-shirt Fabric
Nội dung tóm tắt
ToggleKnitted fabric is known by the English name Spandex Fabric, renowned for its exceptional stretch. It is woven from synthetic fibers such as nylon, cotton, or polyester. Most types of knitted fabric have good absorbency and high elasticity. Pure spandex is rarely used in apparel. Instead, spandex fibers are blended with other materials to create various synthetic, semi-synthetic, or organic fabrics.
It can be said that knitted fabric has the most variations on the market today. For different uses, there are different types of knitted fabric with different properties.
1.1. Cotton Fabric
100% cotton knitted fabric is woven entirely from pure cotton fibers. It is not blended with any other components. The advantages of this type of fabric are its excellent moisture absorption, flexible body temperature regulation, and a soft, comfortable feel for the wearer. Therefore, cotton fabric is often chosen for making clothing for newborns and young children.
There is also cotton knitted fabric with a main component of only 90-95% natural cotton fibers. The remaining fibers will be 5-10% spandex, polyester, or linen. The advantage of 3-way and 4-way stretch cotton knitted fabric is that it’s extremely cool and soft. Additionally, it has good sweat absorption and high elasticity. Therefore, it can be washed many times without fear of the fabric losing its shape or getting damaged. This is the top choice for producing comfortable and highly practical garments such as office uniforms, staff uniforms, and school uniforms.
1.2. Cold Knitted Fabric
Cold knitted fabric is a PE fabric with a smooth surface, making it easy to print or embroider company logos and images. The characteristics of this fabric are that it feels cool to the touch, is soft, smooth, lightweight, and has a low price. It is suitable for outdoor events, sports events, or team-building activities.
Cold knitted fabric is made of 100% polyethylene fiber, although some manufacturers may add 2-5% cotton fibers to make the fabric softer and smoother. You can easily recognize cold knitted fabric by its smooth surface, water resistance, low stretch, resistance to heat-related deformation, and wrinkle and pill-free properties after use.
1.3. Lacoste Fabric (also known as CVC knitted fabric)
Lacoste knitted fabric is a type of fabric woven with large eyelets. This thick fabric contains 60-62% cotton fibers and 35% PE or spandex fibers, which increases its durability, reduces pilling, ensures colorfastness, and provides a structured fit. Lacoste fabric is often used in the production of collared uniforms or other elegant uniforms. This blend offers superior properties. It completely overcomes the wrinkling weakness of pure cotton while ensuring moisture absorption and elasticity at a more “comfortable” price than cotton knitted fabric.
Lacoste fabric is often divided into 2-way stretch and 4-way stretch types. The 4-way stretch type is usually slightly more expensive, but it offers better durability and sweat absorption.
1.4. Polyester Fabric
Polyester fabric (sometimes called PE) is woven entirely from polyester fibers, so it has all the characteristics of this fiber. It has high durability, is wrinkle-resistant, and maintains a firm shape. It is also easy to wash and store. This type of fabric has good elasticity, a soft and smooth surface, and is easy to print with images, logos, or colors as required. The stretch of this fabric is also considered the highest. However, its moisture absorption is lower than other types of knitted fabric.
The limited 2-way stretch is a drawback, but due to its low price, it is still popular in many fields. Therefore, PE fabric is often used to make uniforms for one-time events or promotional items that don’t require specific measurements.
1.5. Rayon Fabric
This type of fabric is made from regenerated cellulose fibers. Rayon has a similar appearance and feel to silk; it is very soft, drapes well, and doesn’t cling to the body. Rayon fabric is wrinkle-resistant and has a natural sheen. Additionally, Rayon has good water absorption, which helps keep the skin dry and comfortable.
If you need to produce uniform designs with a sheen to enhance the design while remaining soft and breathable, Rayon fabric is a perfect choice.
1.6. Modal Fabric
The advantages of Modal fabric are its breathability, good sweat absorption, high durability, wrinkle resistance, skin-friendliness (even for sensitive skin), environmental friendliness, and low pilling. It is also easy to dye, so you can often choose your favorite color. However, the price of Modal fabric is higher than common fabrics, and its raw material supply is limited.
